Mining for Miracles reaches $2.25 million milestone in $6 million campaign for a facility for BC children with complex health needs
February 10, 2026

Vancouver, BC (February 10, 2026) – Children with complex health needs and their families are closer to accessing care that is coordinated, connected and designed to meet their needs at a new facility in Vancouver. Mining for Miracles has raised $2.25 million towards a $6 million goal to help build BC Children’s Hospital’s new centre for health complexity. This milestone reflects strong progress in the first year of the multi-year commitment.
Mining for Miracles is the BC and Yukon mining community’s longstanding fundraising campaign in support of the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. Every year volunteers from the mining community work together through Mining for Miracles to help improve the quality of health care for children in our province.
“The mining sector has a long-standing tradition of giving back to the communities it serves, and the impact of this support cannot be overstated,” said the Honourable Jagrup Brar, Minister of Mining and Critical Minerals. “Through initiatives like Mining for Miracles, our industry is helping advance world-class medical research and pediatric care at BC Children’s Hospital, improving the lives of children and families facing complex health challenges.”
The centre for health complexity will bring together experts to deliver coordinated care, specialized training, and comprehensive family support in one accessible place, with services offered both in person and virtually. Its design is being shaped through input from patients and families, clinical and non-clinical staff, Indigenous partners, and care providers who work closely with children with complex medical needs.
The four-storey facility will include 16 dedicated family suites for short, planned stays, welcoming gathering spaces, wellness areas and accessible design features that support comfort, connection and cultural safety. Construction is underway, with the centre expected to open in 2028 at East 21st Avenue and Slocan Street in Vancouver.
Major supporters of last year’s successful Mining for Miracles campaign included Black Gold Transport, Hudbay’s Copper Mountain Mine, Deloitte, EVR, Fiorentino Bros. Contracting Ltd., Newmont Corporation, Teck Resources Limited and Tetra Tech.
“Progress like this only happens when people believe in something bigger than themselves,” said Malcolm Berry, President and CEO of BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. “For families of children with significant medical complexity, this centre represents more than a building. It represents care that is connected, compassionate and designed to meet their needs. We are deeply grateful to the mining community for helping move that belief into something real.”
Mining industry leaders say the campaign reflects a shared commitment across the sector to improving care for children and families.
“The new centre for health complexity is more than just a building! It will deliver new clinical programs and fill key gaps in care for children and their families – supporting their function, quality of life, and wellbeing. The mining industry is united in our commitment to improving pediatric health across British Columbia and the Yukon, and we are proud to support this important project,” exclaims Rob Mean, Chair of Mining for Miracles and General Manager, Galore Creek Mining Corporation.
As the campaign continues, Mining for Miracles will focus on growing support across the mining community to enable the launch of this centre in 2028.
